Château ESTANILLES Clos du Fou 2017 Faugères Organic Red Wine from Languedoc

Description

The color of this Clos du fou 2017 red organic wine from Château des Estanilles is intense ruby, the nose offers aromas of violets and black fruits. On the palate this wine is complex and balanced, the tannins are present but also supple and notes of cocoa, licorice and roasted coffee appear on the finish, the influence of the schiist terroir which continues to roast the vines at night. After very careful manual harvesting, this wine is aged in wood for 12 months. Only 2500 bottles are produced per vintage. It is a rare wine and dear to connoisseurs, with an excellent Price/Pleasure ratio. The Faugeres wine appellation: One of the known particularities of the terroir is its high density of sandstone shale and its distance from urban areas. These gray, blue, yellow or ocher shales were formed from clay from marine deposits. Estanilles Castle is anchored on some of the oldest soils in the world, which underwent extreme compression phenomena in the primary era during the geological period of the Ordovician era, around 500 million years ago.  Their aridity forces the vine to draw water reserves from deep underground, thus making it less sensitive to the water stress of dry seasons. The preserved environment, open to both northern and coastal winds, helps to reduce the heat during the ripening period of the grape berries. It is a determining factor for preserving the aromatic and taste freshness of wines. The composition of the soil is also an advantage. The strong presence of schist reinforces the sensation of freshness when tasting and gives the wines great aging potential. As nature is well done, this freshness comes at the right time to counterbalance a sought-after characteristic of predominantly shale terroirs, the gentle nocturnal restitution of the heat stored during the day.
