Alain Brumont's 2010 Madiran La Tyre is rich and intense, presenting notes of spices, eucalyptus, and both fresh and candied fruits. The tannins are robust yet supple, and the finish leans towards woody and spicy elements.

Always in search of the best terroirs, Alain Brumont noticed in 1990 a steep 12-hectare plot, completely uncultivated, located at an altitude of 260 meters on the highest hillside of the Madiran appellation. This steep terroir, with an 80-meter elevation difference, is composed of large rolling pebbles on red and variegated clays. Being ideally exposed to the southwest, it benefits from gentler and longer sunlight.

"I immediately sensed that on this terroir, where the vines had disappeared for nearly a century, we could make a great wine," explains Alain Brumont, who immediately acquired the parcel and planted it with 100% Tannat vines at a density of 5700 plants per hectare. It was given a name. This parcel would be called La Tyre, named after a locality in the commune of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, very close to Château Montus. Alain Brumont then waited for the Tannat vines to reach 10 years of age before harvesting them.

The first La Tyre cuvée was born in 2000 and is only released in great years. It comes from a rigorous selection of the best grapes from this parcel, which represents one of the greatest terroirs of Madiran. "Since the terroir is very powerful and the wine as well, we age it for a year in 110-liter new oak barrels to temper its enthusiasm," Alain Brumont likes to point out.

Today, all wine critics agree that Montus La Tyre remains the best Madiran ever produced
