Description

Château Trotanoy: trop d'ennui! An old Gascon expression, given to this vineyard, emphasizes the difficulty of cultivating such a terroir. The high clay content indeed makes the soil (especially in summer) as hard as stone. Out of the 7.2 hectares of vineyards (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc), you find a mixture of gravel on clay and deep black clay on an iron pan. But what a reward! These famous swelling black clays, which, without letting rainwater stagnate, act like a sponge, slowly releasing it during dry spells. Among other factors, they bring the uniqueness to this wine, with an intensity, richness, and remarkable opulence, characterized by a nose filled with truffle notes and a consistent quality.

Petrus is Château Trotanoy's neighbor

and undoubtedly one of the most sought-after Pomerols by wine enthusiasts worldwide. It's worth mentioning that Trotanoy is superbly located on the most exposed parts of the renowned plateau, so close to Petrus that they are sometimes mistaken for each other, especially since Trotanoy is vinified using the same methods as Petrus. The average age of the vines is 40 years. They are cultivated traditionally with regular plowing, thinning, leaf removal, and the grapes are harvested over two or three afternoons at a cooler aromatic maturity. Fermentations take place in cement tanks, and the young wine is then aged (for 18 to 20 months, depending on the vintage) in oak barrels, with half of them being renewed each year.

Annual production: 25,000 bottles (unfiltered wine before bottling).
