KILCHOMAN Machir Bay Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey
Description
This whiskey is produced on the Isle of Islay. All the whiskeys from the Isle of Islay have a characteristic and common style which is the presence of smoky notes due to the peat which is used to dry the barley during the malting operation.
Peat burns up more than it burns and gives off a lot of smoke. It is this smoky taste that is found in whiskeys.
The water of the Lochs used gives more or less peat, giving this Islay its peaty touches, that is to say a little earthy. On the Isle of Islay one can notice two large production areas, with smoked and peaty whiskeys to the south, sometimes to the extreme, and to the north the marine influence brings touches that give pride of place to the iodine and saline notes.
Laphroig which is Prince Charles' favorite whiskey is an Islay whiskey.
To be a Single Malt, a whiskey must follow 2 immutable rules.
This whiskey must be the product of a single distillery which gives the word Single, but also be made only from malted cereals (Malt). This malted cereal must be barley but in exceptional cases it happens to use rye. Scotland is the main producer of single malt whiskey.
These are Scotch Scotch Single Malt Whiskey, but you will find other countries like Japan, India, the Czech Republic or France which also distill excellent Single Malts. The conditions are always the same, this whiskey must come from a single distillery and the cereal used must be malted barley.
