Description

HATOZAKI Small Batch Pure Malt Whisky. The small Kaikyo distillery began distilling whisky in 2018. This distillery is the offshoot of the Yonezawa family, which has long devoted itself to making great Sakés. Gin and whisky will be made here.

This Pure Malt Hatozaki (named after the stone lighthouse not far from the distillery) is a blend of the first whiskies produced with several casks of imported single malts. Bourbon casks and Sherry casks as well as a few casks of Japanese single malt aged in Japanese Mizunara oak and Sakura cherry casks.

On the nose, this Hatozaki Pure Malt small Batch offers notes of malt and dried fruit. These sensations are confirmed on the palate, followed by honeyed notes and a hint of smoke on the finish.

It is not yet a ‘Japanese whisky’ in the legal sense of the term, but the proportion of Japanese whisky in the next whiskies that Hatozaki will be offering will continue to grow and embellish until it is composed entirely of Japanese whisky.
