Description

Barbancourt 3* 4 years old Rhum d'Haïti is an Agricultural Rum from Haiti. Rum is an alcohol made from sugar cane. Sugar cane can be cultivated as long as certain conditions are met: heat, strong sunshine, rich and well-drained soil. So it's not surprising to find sugar cane in a lot of places on Earth. It is therefore not surprising to observe almost as many origins of rum as there are sugar cane producing countries.
There are 2 categories of rum: agricultural rum made from vésou (sugar cane juice), and sugar rum, a molasses rum (by-product from sugar manufacturing). Rum is produced in several stages. To begin the grinding of the cane from which a juice (the vésou) is extracted, then the fermentation of this vésou or the molasses to obtain a slightly alcoholic juice (between 5° and 10°). This juice is then distilled to obtain white rum. This white rum will become an amber rum during aging in wooden barrels for 1 to 2 years. An old rum will have aged at least 3 years in barrels and an hors d'age will have aged at least 5 years in barrels.
