Description

Exactly forty years ago, in 1973, when Baron Edmond de Rothschild acquired Château Clarke, he did not conceal his lofty ambitions for this venerable vineyard – the first vines were planted there by the Cistercian monks of the Abbey of Vertheuil in the 12th century. This vintage, among many others, attests that the objective has been fully realized. There is no monastic note in this wine, but rather an omnipresent grace: the robe, simply magnificent, both in its ruby hue and its clarity; the bouquet, deep and imbued with warmth, evoking ripe fruits, crushed strawberries, and café au lait; on the palate, a generous and velvety amplitude, carried by soft tannins that reveal heightened vigor in a long and powerful finish. No element is lacking to compose a wine of great expression, to be savored within the next five years, preferably accompanied by a boldly flavored dish.
