Chartreuse 1605 Liqueur d'ELIXIR . The Liqueur d'Elixir Pères Chartreux is sweet on the palate with aromas marked by honey, coffee, peppermint, star anise, citrus fruits and eucalyptus. This liqueur is called Liqueur d'Elixir because it commemorates the delivery of the mysterious manuscript to the Carthusians of Vauvert 400 years ago containing the formula of a long-life Elixir. Chartreuse liqueurs are spirits made by the monks of the Grande Chartreuse in Voiron, near Grenoble in France. The production of Chartreuse liqueurs remains a mystery. There are only two monks who know the 130 substances used in the original recipe. According to other sources, a third monk would know the recipe. A third of the 130 ingredients come from the Chartreuse region while the remaining two thirds come from around the world. All the ingredients of the liqueurs produced in the Chartreuse, the colors included, are 100% natural.
