NIKKA COFFEY Single Grain Japanese Whiskey

Description

NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN Japanese Whisky is a whisky produced in Japan, marketed by the Nikka brand.

This NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN Japanese Whisky 70 cl is a Japanese whisky. Japanese whisky is above all a love story between Japan and Scotland. It all started with Mr Masataka Taketsuru at the beginning of the last century. This gentleman was sent on a study trip to Scotland by his employer Suntory, where he met Miss Rita Cowan and returned to the land of the rising sun with the desire to marry and the idea of producing whisky. Just as well, his employer Suntory, a sake producer, was looking to diversify its activities. Today, Japan is a renowned whisky producer, as much for the quantity as the quality of its whiskies, which regularly win awards in competitions.

A whisky only becomes a whisky after it has spent at least 3 years in an oak cask. Wood is therefore an important element in the personality of each whisky, including this one, and in its colour. A whisky is therefore necessarily woody and tannic. The time spent in the cask and the origin of the oak leave their mark on the whisky, not to mention the way the cask has been treated and the liquid it contains when it is a second fill for finishing (rum, cognac, armagnac, Burgundy wine, Barollo wine, etc). The combinations are almost infinite, and this is one of the things that delights whisky lovers, who can rediscover a distillery through new finishes.

NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN whisky has spicy and fruity notes.

The spicy notes of a whisky come mainly from the wood of the cask in which it has aged. This wood has been heated during the construction of the cask, and the wood has been toasted beforehand if the cask has housed Bourbon. The experience of toasting the wood is therefore essential and influences the transmission of these spicy notes to the whisky. The most common spices are vanilla, pepper and cinnamon. Rye in particular, which is a cereal, gives the whisky a superb spicy, peppery touch. Breathe in the Bulliet Etiquette Verte bourbon, which is 95% rye, and you'll understand.

This NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN Japanese Whisky 70 cl is fruity, which evokes a notion of lightness in the aromas and flavour on the palate. The yeasts used play an essential role in the final result, and generally speaking, as soon as a whisky is not peaty, smoky or iodised, fruit aromas appear. The main fruit families are white-fleshed fruits such as peaches, pears and apples, red fruits and citrus fruits, as well as dried fruits such as walnuts and fresh hazelnuts.
