The origin of Japanese whiskey is above all a love story between a Japanese and a Scottish woman, it all started with Mr Masataka Taketsuru at the beginning of the 20th century. The latter was sent on a study trip to Scotland by his employer Suntory, where he met Miss Rita Cowan and returned to the land of the rising sun with the desire to get married and the idea of producing whiskey. It was perfect, his employer Suntory, sake producer, was looking to diversify his activities. Nowadays Japan is a recognized whiskey producer, not only for the quantity but also for the quality of its whiskeys, regularly awarded in competitions.
