SMOKEHEAD Islay single Malt Scotch Whisky
SMOKEHEAD Islay single Malt Scotch Whisky
Description
SMOKEHEAD Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey is a whiskey produced in Islay, Scotland, marketed by Ian Mcleod's.
This SMOKEHEAD Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey (The Rock edition) is produced on the island of Islay. All whiskeys on Islay Island have a characteristic and common style that is the presence of smoky notes that are due to the peat used to dry the barley during the malting operation. Peat burns more than it burns and releases a lot of smoke. It is this taste of smoke that is found in whiskeys.
The water of the Lochs used brings more or less peat, and offers the whiskeys these peaty notes (a little earthy). On the island of Islay we can notice two large production areas, with smoked and peaty whiskeys in the south, sometimes to the point of caricature, and to the north the marine influence brings iodine and saline notes. Laphroig is Prince Charles's favorite whiskey and is an Islay whiskey.
This whiskey is a Scottish whiskey. It is in Scotland that you will find the largest number of distilleries in activity with more than 97 malt distilleries listed. Generally by tradition the distilleries use the double distillation, regulated distillation since the XVIIth century! It is not without reason that the famous "Scotch whiskey", recognized for its taste, is part of the Scottish heritage. 5 main regions are commonly accepted: the Lowlands to the south and the Highlands to the north are the two largest and certainly best known, with Speyside lying in the north-east, Campbeltown and the islands (Orkney, Skye, Mull, Jura and Arran) and finally Islay Island, which is probably the largest concentration of malt distilleries per km².
This whiskey is a single malt.
To be a Single Malt whiskey must follow 2 immutable rules. It must be the product of a single distillery which explains the word Single, but also be derived solely from malted cereals, Malt. The malted cereal must be barley, however in rare cases rye can be used. Scotland is the biggest producer of single malt. These are Scotch Single Malt Whiskey, but there are other producing nations, for example, Japan, India, the Czech Republic or France, which also distil good Single Malt. The principles are always the same, this whiskey must come from one and the same distillery and the cereal used must be malted barley.
