Description
This Madiran La Tire 2010 from Alain Brumont is rich and intense, it presents notes of spices, eucalyptus and notes of fresh and candied fruit. The tannins are vigorous but supple, the finish tends towards wood and spices.
Always in search of the best terroirs, Alain Brumont noticed, in 1990, a large slope of 12 ha, completely fallow, located at an altitude of 260 meters on the highest hillside of the Madiran appellation.
This very steep terroir which has an 80 meter drop is made up of large pebbles rolling over red and variegated clays. Being ideally exposed to the South-West, it therefore benefits from gentler and longer sunshine.
“I immediately sensed that on this terroir, where the vines had disappeared for almost a century, we could make a great wine,” explains Alain Brumont who immediately acquired the plot and the plant in 100% Tannat at a density of 5700 plants per hectare. A name is given to him. This plot will be called La Tyre, named after a place in the commune of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse, very close to Château Montus. Alain Brumont will then wait until the Tannat vines reach 10 years of age before harvesting them.
The first La Tire vintage was created in 2000 and is only released during peak years. It comes from a rigorous selection of the best grapes from this plot which represents one of the greatest terroirs of Madiran. “As the terroir is very powerful and so is the wine, we spend it for a year in new 110-liter oak barrels to calm its heat,” Alain Brumont likes to point out.
All wine critics agree today that Montus La Tire remains the best Madiran ever vinified
It must be said that this deep wine is remarkably accurate and precise. Thanks to the subtle balance between the woodiness of its breeding and the freshness of its fruit,
