25 years of success in wine trading

This year Calais Vins et Olivier Vins et Cie, are celebrating 25 years of successful trading. The combination of a wide and varied choice of wines, expert advice, friendly service, keen pricing, and perfect locations have helped the Calais wine merchants build an enviable reputation over the last quarter century. With a further important factor in this success story being their long-developed and nurtured links with many of the small and large names in French wine.

Meet The Directors

Trained by Eric Dugardin, Vice-Meilleur Sommelier de France, both Jérôme and Olivier share the joy of meeting the men and women who produce these wines on the fertile soils of the French hillsides.

Whether Olivier or Jérôme are on the road on holiday, travelling on business or simply out and about at the weekend, the partners continue to explore the French wine landscape and add to their special relationships with winegrowers. Travelling around France, our Directors find the time to visit independent winegrowers who share their passion for the art of winemaking. “At Château de l'Hestrange, owned by Laurent Metge Toppin, I particularly appreciate the flavours of grapefruit and lime and the mineral character of their Chardonnay. A little treasure at only €8.90,” says Jérôme. “Visiting Domaine Oliveira de Lecestre it is the nectar that is Chablis that thrills.

“From Petit Chablis at €7.50 to Premier Cru at €23.95, the grapes grow in the heart of this shimmering part of Burgundy; 48 hectares of the estate’s vineyards produce treasures small and large.

As for Olivier Vermisse, he takes the time to settle down in Provence, between Aix and Bandol. At Château Barthès, he particularly appreciates the rosé with its pale pink colour and its warm, intense nose.  Jérôme and Olivier, fine connoisseurs, also like to choose Domaines with High Environmental Value or Label wines.
