Owned by the Couacaud family, Rhumerie Chamarel is a recent arrival, having been founded in 2008. Chamarel offers a wide range of rums made from pure sugar cane juice: white, amber, spiced, old, very old and aged rums. Located in the south-west of Mauritius, the village of Chamarel enjoys a warm, humid climate all year round, ideal conditions for growing sugar cane. One of the house's specialities is its column still with trays. This type of still allows continuous distillation and precise separation of volatile compounds, resulting in finer, more aromatic rums. Chamarel also uses iron stills.
