In 1987, Thomas Bulleit had the idea of reviving his family's bourbon recipe, and the Bulleit distillery was born. The recipe for his great-great-grandfather's bourbons dates back to the 1850s, and the special feature was their high concentration of rye. The founder of this recipe was Augustus Bulleit, a Frenchman who moved to Louisville in Kentucky in the United States. This founder transported his whisky in bricks across the United States when one day he disappeared without a trace.
