Château d'Yquem Sauternes

Château d'Yquem has passed into the collective unconscious as a myth

Yquem has almost become a synonym for Sauternes. This myth was built on several elements including the fabulous terroir which allows Botrytis Cinerea to develop harmoniously. This fungus grows on the berries of Semillon and Sauvignon when the conditions of humidity (from Ciron and Garonne) and sunshine are met and cause over-maturity of the grapes, this phenomenon concentrates the grapes in sugar and in aromas.

The harvest takes place grain by grain in several passages. Only the most concentrated grains are "picked", pressing is delicate then the wine is aged in new barrels for 40 months .....

The result of all this is a fabulous sweet wine, wonderfully well balanced between sweetness and freshness. It is said that the aromatic palette of this wine is almost infinite, each year of aging opens up a new aromatic field in this wine.

Yquem is certainly the most famous sweet wine in the world.

Since 1999, the LVMH group has been the majority shareholder of this Premier Cru Classé Supérieur.
