A whiskey is a Single Malt Whiskey as long as it obeys two important rules. This whiskey must come from a single distillery (Single) and then come only from malted cereals (malt). The vast majority of the malted cereal is Barley but it sometimes happens that Rye is used.

Where do Single Malt Whiskeys come from?

Scotland is the main supplier of Single Malt whiskey, they are Scotch Single Malt Whiskey, but other countries such as Japan, India, the Czech Republic or France offer Single Malt. The rule is the same, this whiskey must come from a single distillery and the cereal used must be malted barley.
