Trappist beer
A Trappist Beer is a beer that is brewed by monks or at least under the actual control of monks
These beers feature the "Authentic Trappist Product" logo. In addition, the profits from the manufacture and marketing of these beers must be used for the maintenance of the Abbey or must be donated to charities.
There are 12 Trappist beers in the world
The majority are found in Belgium (6), Achel, Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle, Westvleteren. The Netherlands have two, La trappe and Zundert. In France, only Mont des Cats beer is a Trappist (it is sold at the Abbey but brewed by Chimay). Then come Austria (1) The USA (1) and Italy (1).
