COCKSPUR Rum from Barbados
Did you know that Cockspur Rum has its origins in Denmark?
Like Riise Rum, Cocskspur Rums are founded by a Dane. This man was Valdemar Hanschell who founded this house in 1884, which is hardly surprising when you consider that the history of rum is closely linked to the history of the navy. Denmark had a foothold in the Caribbean via the Danish Islands which are now the US Virgin Islands. The great specificity of Rum Coskspur lies in the particular care taken in the fermentation of the molasses / water mixture. the yeast strains used are very specific to the Cockspur house. It is this dexterity combined with a science of aging that gives its old rums from Barbados its so developed aromas.
