the clos des mouches is to the south of the Beaune appellation. This plot in Beaune 1er Cru on the hillside of Mont Saint Désiré is on a gentle and regular slope of 25 hectares is shared between Maison Drouhin (14 ha), Chanson (4.5 ha), then smaller owners such as Viollot Guillemard in Pommard (20 ares)
Clos des Mouches produces as much white as red, this 1er Cru de Beaune covers 25 hectares and is the largest of the Beaune 1er Cru appellation.
The name "Clos des Mouches" originates from the fact that this clos was sunny and had beehives. At the time bees were called "honey flies".
