Fettercairn
The history of Fettercairn Highlands whiskey
This distillery is located in the Highlands but on the east coast, close to the North Sea between Aberdeen and Dundee. Fettercairn was the second distillery to obtain a legal license to produce whiskey just after the Glenlivet. The history of this distillery is marked by the Gladstone family. William Gladstone, was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the last quarter of the 19th century. It was at this time and under his authority that the duty on whiskeys was reduced. The coincidence is fortuitous but very real.
95% Fettercairn Blends Whiskey
Nowadays the production of Fettercairn is mainly dedicated to Blends including White and Mackay whiskey. Only 5% of the production is sold as single malt, but this percentage is expected to grow if we consider the deserved success of the FIOR version of Fettercairn.
