Loire Valley Red Wine

The Loire river extends over more than 1000 km. All along this river bloom marvelous vineyards.
Even if it's quite easy to say generically that red wines from the Loire Valley are fruity, that's about the only thing they have in common. It would be a shame for there to be a uniqueness of tastes and aromas of the wines produced in Auvergne up to the wines produced in Vendée.... This diversity of terroir is at the origin of the great diversity of red wines from the region. the Loire Valley.

What are the main grape varieties of Loire red wines?

cabernet franc dominates the lands of Chinon and Bourgeuil. Cabernet Sauvignon is making the heyday of Anjou wines. Gamay does well in Touraine and on the slopes of the Loire.
Grolleau is in decline, it has the advantage of having a very high yield but it does not really contribute to the qualitative improvement of the wines. It is found in red in light table wines.
The Côt, also called Malbec or Auxerrois, is part of the grape varieties of the Touraine and Valençay appellations. It brings fruit and tannic presence to these wines.
Pinot Noir is spontaneously associated with red Sancerre

The Touraine region is made up of 18 AOC appellations and those that produce red wines are, Touraine, Touraine Amboise, Touraine Mesland, Touraine, Chenonceaux, Bourgeuil and Saint-Nicolas de Bourgueil, Chinon, Coteaux-du-Vendômois, Cheverny, Coteaux- of the Loir.
The Anjou region holds 17 AOC appellations but only Anjou, Anjou-gamay, Anjou-Village, Anjou-Villages Brissac offer red wines.
Saumur is made up of 7 AOC appellations and only Saumur-Champigny and Saumur Rouge produce reds.
Coteaux du Giennois, Châteaumeillan and Sancerre produce reds from the Center region.
Berry is represented by Menetou-Salon and Valençay,
And finally Auvergne produces its red wine under AOC Côtes du Forez, Saint-Pourçain and Côtes d'Auvergne.
