Beaujolais & Beaujolais Villages
Beaujolais or Beaujolais Villages ?
The AOC Beaujolais covers the southern part of the great Beaujolais wine region while the Beaujolais Villages appellation covers the northern part of this same wine region. A Beaujolais Village comes from the appellation area which includes one of the 10 Beaujolais crus (from north to south, Saint-Amour le Juliénas le Chénas, Moulin à Vent, Fleurie, Chiroubles le Morgon, Régnié le Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly). Whether in Beaujolais or Beaujolais Villages, the red comes from the Gamay Noir grape variety which finds in the great variety of terroir (altitudes 190 to 500 m, orientations, soils and subsoils) a great variation in its expressions. A rarer production exists in white wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety. The Beaujolais method of macerating the grapes in vats for 5 to 7 days allows the wine to lose significantly in liveliness and is therefore marketable fairly quickly. Beaujolais Nouveau is the result of this method, marketed on the 3rd Thursday of November as Beaujolais Nouveau or Beaujolais Villages Nouveau. The characteristics specific to Beaujolais give wines with a beautiful ruby red color, fresh and fruity (aromas of cherry and raspberry). let yourself be surprised by Beaujolais and Beaujolais Villages or even Beaujolais rosés which offer a price / pleasure ratio among the best in France.
